Alert: Croatia, Fire/Poor Air Quality Alert

Location: Croatia

Event:   The U.S. Embassy in Zagreb cautions U.S. citizens about potential poor air quality in the area around Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb due to a fire at an automobile tire warehouse in Sveta Nedelja.  U.S. Embassy employees have been advised to avoid the western parts of  Zagreb, to limit spending time outdoors, and to take precautionary measures for the remainder of the day due to potential air pollution from smoke and particles.

We urge U.S. citizens visiting or living in Croatia to be aware of air quality conditions in their area and follow guidance from local authorities.  Expect road closures and traffic delays in areas impacted by the fire and resulting smoke.

Actions to Take:

  • Monitor the local news for updates.
  • Plan for Road Constraints:  In the event of road closures, have alternative transportation options ready, and be aware that public transportation routes may be affected.
  • Follow Authorities’ Instructions:  Updates on the fire are being provided by the Firefighter’s Association .
