Security Alert: Cambodia, Escalation of Armed Conflict Along the Cambodia - Thailand Border

10 December, 2025

Location:

Cambodia–Thailand Border and Adjacent Provinces

Event:

The U.S. Embassy is monitoring reports of significant escalation in the conflict along the Cambodia-Thailand border. On December 8, there were widespread reports of artillery and small arms fire exchanges in border areas. Thai military aircraft reportedly conducted strikes in Cambodia. Both sides continue to report cross-border fire, and the situation remains volatile.

U.S. citizens should avoid all travel within 50 kilometers of the Cambodia–Thailand border due to active hostilities and the unpredictable security situation. The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services in affected provinces.

U.S. citizens residing or traveling near affected areas should follow instructions from Cambodian security services and monitor local authorities for updated information.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid all travel within 50 km of the Cambodia–Thailand border.
  • Follow directions from Cambodian security services and local authorities.
  • Absent other guidance, exercise caution or shelter in place if unexpectedly in the vicinity of conflict.
  • Prepare or update your personal emergency plan. Review the Traveler’s Checklist .
  • Enroll and update your information in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) .
  • Receive alerts from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs via WhatsApp .
  • Monitor the Embassy’s website and the Department of State on Facebook X , and travel.state.gov  for updates.
