Security Alert:  Disruption of Italian Railways, February 14

Location: Italy, Nationwide

Event: Italian officials announced railway sabotage incidents on multiple lines linked to Rome on the morning of February 14.

Italian officials announced additional railway sabotage incidents on multiple lines linked to Rome on the morning of February 14.  The Rome-Naples, Rome-Florence, and Rome-Milan high speed lines suffered damage. Officials suspect it may be linked to an ongoing nuisance campaign aimed at infrastructure disruption to sabotage the Olympic Games.

On February 13, Italian authorities announced enhanced security measures intended to prevent future disruptions to railway networks during the Games.  These efforts include increased patrols along the tracks and rigorous technical monitoring.

Please consult railway websites to see if your travel is affected.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid areas of disruption and exercise caution when traveling by train.
  • Utilize good situational awareness and attempt to leave any affected areas immediately.
  • Budget extra travel time and anticipate possible delays.
  • Monitor local media and railway websites for updates.
