In addition to commercial departure options, the Department is coordinating transportation out of the region and can manifest Americans who have completed the crisis intake form as space is available.

If you choose to not take advantage of departure options available, Americans should be prepared to shelter in place in a secure location within your residence or another safe building. Have a supply of food, water, medications, and other essential items.
Options to Depar:
- Commercial flights are currently operating out of international airports in Oman. Americans should strongly consider departing on one of these flights if they believe it is safe to do so. Visit the airport and airline websites to find information about flight availability and to purchase tickets.
Shelter in Place:
- U.S. Embassy Muscat has issued a shelter in place if you are located within or near Duqm or within a 100 km radius of Salalah and it is unsafe to leave. To the extent possible, remain in a secure structure, and stay away from windows.
Travel Restrictions:
- U.S. Embassy Muscat has issued travel restrictions for U.S. government employees to Musandam Governorate and Masirah Island, due to proximity to Iran and Duqm respectively, as well as the risk of isolation in the event of any incidents. U.S. Embassy Muscat recommends U.S. citizen travelers avoid these areas as well.
- U.S. Embassy Muscat has issued travel restrictions for U.S. government employees for recreational maritime activities greater than 25 kilometers offshore, due to current risks to commercial maritime traffic and potential naval activity.
Embassy Operations:
- The U.S. Embassy Muscat continues to provide routine and emergency services to American citizens. Americans should contact MuscatACS@state.gov in case of emergency.
- On March 3, 2026, the Department of State authorized non-emergency U.S. government employees and U.S. government employee family members to leave Oman.
Actions to Take:
- Maintain communication with family and friends to inform them of your status.
- Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
- Find a secure location within your residence or another safe building. Have a supply of food, water, medications, and other essential items.
- In case of an attack, stay away from any debris, and monitor news outlets for official guidance.
- Avoid protests and demonstrations, keep a low profile, and stay aware of your surroundings.
- Pay close attention to communications from local officials.
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive safety and security updates from the U.S. Embassy.
