Demonstration Alert: Tirana (Albania), Demonstrations at Land Border Crossings on January 26

Location: Border Crossings in Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania

Event: The Embassy is aware of reports that commercial truck drivers in Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina are coordinating protests along land border crossings on January 26, 2026.  While the Embassy is not aware of any protests by commercial truck drivers in Albania, it is likely that there will be delays and possible blockages at border crossings between Albania and Montenegro (Bozaj-Hani i Hotit) and Albania and North Macedonia (Qafe Thane and Blatte) and possibly at other border crossings.

Actions to Take:

• U.S. Citizens are advised to avoid these protests
• Be aware of your surroundings
• Monitor local media
• Plan significant extra time to arrive at your intended destination
• Exercise caution when driving and check traffic conditions beforehand
• Always have an emergency plan or exit strategy
• Keep a low profile
