Weather Alert: Tropical Cyclone Gezani, Madagascar Update 3 on February 10, 2026

Event: At 9:00am local time, Tropical Cyclone GEZANI was located 186km (115mi) east of Toamasina (Tamatave), with sustained winds of 160km/h (100mph) and gusts of 225km/h (140mph). The system is moving westward at 16km/h (10mph), and will make landfall in the Toamasina II district around 6:00pm tonight. At time of impact, estimated wind gusts could reach 250km/h (155mph). In addition, the storm will generate heavy rainfall of 100 to 150 mm (4 to 6 in) within 24 hours, which could cause widespread flooding, flash floods, and landslides along its path. A deterioration of sea conditions is expected starting this afternoon. Please carefully follow the instructions issued by the local authorities.

Red Alert (Imminent danger): ANALANJIROFO and ATSINANANA

 

Yellow Alert (Threat): AMBATOSOA, ALAOTRA MANGORO, ANALAMANGA, BETSIBOKA, BONGOLAVA, ITASY, VAKINANKARATRA, MELAKY, MENABE, Antalaha, Andapa, Mandritsara and Befandriana Avaratra;

 

Actions to Take:

  • Monitor the local news for updates.
  • Ensure you have sufficient supplies of food, water, and fuel.
  • Be prepared to seek shelter.
  • Notify friends and family of your safety.
  • Make contingency plans to leave.
  • Have evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. Government assistance.
