Transportation Alert: Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu (Peru), Train Collision Between Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes

Event:

 

We have received reports of a collision of two trains transiting between Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu Pueblo).  There are U.S. citizens among the injured in the crash.  Peruvian authorities are dispatching first responders to the site of the crash.  If you or a loved one are in need of assistance, please reach out to iPerú at +51 944-492-314.

Rail traffic along the Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes route has been suspended.  Travelers with rail travel plans should contact their rail service provider directly regarding rescheduling or reimbursement options.  Travelers should consult their guides or tourist agencies and adjust plans accordingly.

  • Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests. 
  • Contact your travel company for advice or assistance.
