Weather Alert: Tropical Cyclone Gezani, Madagascar on February 9, 2026

Event: At 9:00am local time, Tropical Cyclone GEZANI was located 580km east of Toamasina (Tamatave), with sustained winds of 75km/h and gusts of 105km/h. The system is moving westward at 15km/h, and will make landfall in the area between Mananara Nord and Vatomandry tomorrow afternoon or evening. In addition to strong winds, this system will generate heavy rainfall (100 to 150 mm/24h), which could cause widespread flooding, flash floods, and landslides along its path. A deterioration of sea conditions is expected starting this afternoon. Please carefully follow the instructions issued by the local authorities.

 

The following alerts have been issued:

 

Yellow Alert (Threat): AMBATOSOA, ANALANJIROFO, ATSINANANA, ALAOTRA MANGORO, ANALAMANGA, BETSIBOKA, Antalaha, Andapa, Mandritsara and Befandriana Avaratra;

Green Alert (Warning): BONGOLAVA, ITASY, VAKINANKARATRA, MELAKY and MENABE.

 

Actions to Take:

  • Monitor the local news for updates.
  • Ensure you have sufficient supplies of food, water, and fuel.
  • Be prepared to seek shelter.
  • Notify friends and family of your safety.
  • Make contingency plans to leave.
  • Have evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. Government assistance.
