Event: There is an increase in reported kidnappings for ransom in Port-au-Prince, particularly in the Delmas area. There are reported incidents of kidnappers posing as police officers.

Actions to Take:

  • Keep a low profile.
  • Limit all unnecessary travel.
  • Always inform someone of where you are going and what time you expect to return.
  • Develop a communication plan with family, your employer, or host organization. This helps them monitor your safety and location as you travel through high-risk areas. Specify how you’ll confirm you’re safe (text, calls, etc.), how often, and who you’ll contact first to share the information.
