Event:
Demonstrations continue across Antananarivo and have been reported in Toliara (Tulear), Toamasina (Tamatave), and Antsiranana (Diego Suarez). Ivato International Airport in Antananarivo is open, but many flights have been canceled. A curfew is expected to be put in place beginning at 7:00pm tonight. Those traveling to the airport to catch confirmed flights with flight documentation in hand may be not be subject to the curfew.
U.S. citizens are strongly advised to continue to shelter in place and avoid locations where protests or demonstrations occur. Sporadic protests may develop quickly, especially after dark.
The airport is currently open, but many international and domestic flights have been cancelled. Please contact your airline for flight information and updates prior to traveling to the airport.
The U.S. Embassy in Antananarivo has cancelled all routine consular services for today, September 26th.
Actions to Take:
- Shelter in place if it is safe to do so
- Avoid the areas of the demonstrations
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gathering or protests
- Monitor local media for updates
- Review your personal security plans.
