Security Alert: Colombia, Threat of Violence in Narino Department, including Pasto

Event: On December 23, 2025, armed members of a terrorist organization placed explosive devices on the Bermudez Bridge on the highway between Pasto (the capital city of Narino department) and the Pasto airport and opened fire on Colombian Army and National Police units. There are no specific future threats to the bridge or highway, but violence has escalated in several municipalities in the Narino department due to territorial disputes among illegal armed groups. The Blancos y Negros Carnival will take place in Pasto from January 2, 2026, through January 7, 2026.

  • Do not confront guerillas or armed individuals
  • Maintain a high level of vigilance
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep a low profile
  • Avoid crowds
  • Monitor local media for security updates
