Weather Alert: San Andres and Providencia Islands (Colombia), Hurricane Julia on October 9

The National Hurricane Center is tracking the development of Tropical Storm Julia forming in the southwestern Caribbean Sea.  This storm is expected to become Hurricane Julia by Saturday night as it approaches the coast of Nicaragua.  It will likely strike San Andres and Providencia on Sunday morning.

Actions to Take: 

  • Avoid travel to San Andres, and Providencia until the storm has dissipated.
  • Monitor the local news for updates.
  • All U.S. citizens should ensure that they have adequate food, water, fuel, and prescription medications on hand at all times as part of their standard emergency preparedness plan.
