Unexploded Ordnance
Unexploded ordnance is a hazard in areas that have experienced military activity. Do not visit collapsed structures or impacted areas. Never touch anything resembling unexploded ordnance.
Terrorism and Kidnapping
The U.S. Embassy in Beirut reminds U.S. citizens in Lebanon that there are ongoing risks of terrorism and kidnapping throughout Lebanon. Locations frequented by U.S. citizens and tourists in Beirut or elsewhere in Lebanon may become a target for these attacks.
Unrest
U.S. citizens should avoid demonstrations, protests, or any large gatherings as these have the potential to quickly turn violent and with little notice. Protesters have blocked major roads, including thoroughfares between downtown Beirut and the area where the U.S. Embassy is located, and between Beirut and Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport.
Actions to Take:
· Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive safety and security updates from the U.S. Embassy.
· Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists.
· Choose one family member to serve as the point of contact. If you are kidnapped or taken hostage, that person can communicate with kidnappers or hostage-takers, media, U.S. or foreign government agencies, and members of Congress.
· Review your personal security plans.
· Be aware of your surroundings.
· Monitor local media for updates.
· Never touch anything resembling unexploded ordnance.
· Avoid protest areas and demonstrations.
· Avoid crowds.
· Keep a low profile.
