Weather Alert: Vietnam, Storm Conditions in Central Vietnam Due to Typhoon Kalmaegi

Weather Alert – Storm Conditions in Central Vietnam Due to Typhoon Kalmaegi
U.S. Mission Vietnam
(November 5, 2025)

Location:  Central Vietnam, including the provinces of Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, and northern Dak Lak

Typhoon Kalmaegi (Typhoon 13) is expected to make landfall overnight on Thursday, November 6, and the morning of Friday, November 7.  The storm is expected to land in areas already impacted by heavy rains and flooding.  The U.S. Embassy and Consulate General in Vietnam urge all U.S. citizens in affected areas to maintain caution and follow the directions of local authorities.

The Vietnamese National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) predicts that Kalmaegi will reach peak intensity on Thursday, November 6, before it moves inland, especially across Quang Ngai and Dak Lak provinces.  NCHMF predicts coastal areas from Hue to Dak Lak may suffer large waves of 4 to 8 meters/13 to 26 feet and a storm surge of 0.3 to 0.6 meters/1 to 2 feet in addition to high winds, possibly exceeding 135 kilometers per hour/84 miles per hour.  Residents should expect continued risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides.  Additionally, infrastructure already weakened by previous flooding may be increasingly unreliable.

U.S. Consulate General officials in Ho Chi Minh City have been in contact with local authorities, who confirm that they are assisting residents and visitors in affected areas.  If you require immediate assistance, please contact the following:
