The Department of State has issued a Global Level 3 Health Advisory for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also issued a Level 2 Global COVID-19 Outbreak Notice.
As of March 17, the Government of Nicaragua has not confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the country’s borders. Nicaragua’s Health Ministry continues to report that they are monitoring the situation. The Nicaraguan government has not imposed any restrictions or any quarantine policies due to the worldwide outbreak. Visit Nicaragua’s Health Ministry website for any updates on Nicaragua’s response to the spread of COVID-19.
Effective March 17, 2020, U.S. Embassy Managua has suspended all routine non-immigrant and immigrant visa services through at least April 1, 2020, in order to comply with the CDC’s recommendation to limit gatherings to less than 50 people. Routine American Citizen Services will continue until further notice.
The Embassy has advised employees and family members who may be vulnerable due to COVID-19 to consider leaving Nicaragua.
U.S. citizen tourists should also consider advancing their departure plans from Nicaragua before the Nicaraguan health system becomes overwhelmed and flights become unavailable.
