Weather Alert – U. S. Embassy Maputo, Mozambique February 11, 2026 

Location: Coastal districts of Sofala, Inhambane, and Gaza, plus Inhambane, Mutamba, Save, Limpopo, Incomati, and Umbeluzi River basins. 

Event: Tropical Storm Gezani is expected to affect Mozambique’s central and southern coast on February 13 and 14 as a tropical cyclone with heavy rains, strong winds, and high tidal surges. River basins from the Districts of Beira to Maputo could experience flooding due to heavy rains.  

Actions to Take:   

  • Avoid coastal areas and river basins in Sofala, Inhambane, and Gaza Provinces. 
  • Make contingency plans to leave these areas. 
  • Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible. 
  • Review your personal security plans.
