Health Alert: Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Updated quarantine restrictions

Event:
COVID-19

Location: Malaysia

(Updated) Quarantine Requirements Upon Entry to Malaysia

Effective January 13, 2022, fully vaccinated travelers who have recovered from a COVID-19 infection in the last 11 to 60 days are not required to quarantine upon arrival in Malaysia.  Such travelers remain subject to testing and documentation requirements.  You should carefully review the Malaysian Ministry of Health’s guidance to verify your eligibility and ensure you have the required documentation if you are considering using this option to avoid quarantine.

Additionally, travelers utilizing the programs for Short Term Business Travelers, the Langkawi Island International Tourism Pilot Project, or the Malaysia-Singapore Vaccinated Travel Lane are not required to quarantine but must still test prior to arrival. Preapproval is required for each of these programs. Please see Entry Restrictions on our COVID-19 webpage for more details on each program.

All travelers arriving to Malaysia, regardless of quarantine requirements, must provide negative results of a COVID-19 (RT-PCR) test taken within two days of departure.

Travelers Not Exempt From Quarantine

All other travelers arriving to Malaysia must quarantine at the assigned quarantine location for 7 days (fully vaccinated travelers) or 10 days (unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers) and undergo a second COVID sample screening on the 5th day of quarantine (fully vaccinated travelers) or the 8th day of quarantine (unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers). For information on eligibility/approvals for home quarantine, please see Quarantine Information on our COVID-19 webpage for more details.

All travelers must download the MySejahtera application and may be required to wear a wristband or digital tracker for identification and monitoring by the authorities.

The full cost of testing and quarantine must be borne by the traveler.

As always, please remember that entry restrictions and quarantine requirements may change with little advance notice.  Travelers are encouraged to monitor the websites and social media of the Malaysian Ministry of Health and the Malaysian Immigration Department and contact the Malaysian authorities directly with any questions.  Please note that the social media pages for the above Malaysian entities are often the first to be updated with the latest information on entry restrictions and quarantine requirements.
