Travel Advisory: Transportation at Cape Town International Airport

Be alert for individuals at Cape Town International Airport who claim to be Uber or other ride-hailing drivers without a confirmed booking. Some travelers have been charged extremely high fares after accepting rides outside the app.

For your safety, only use vehicles requested through the ride-hailing app at the designated pickup area, arrange transportation through the airport-authorized transportation desk, or with assistance from your hotel.

Actions to Take:

  • Arrange airport transportation in advance using a ride-hailing app, the airport-authorized transportation desk, or hotel.
  • Do not accept ride offers from individuals approaching travelers inside or outside the terminal.
  • Confirm your driver and vehicle details in the app before entering the car.
  • Use only designated ride-share pickup areas at the airport. In Cape Town International Airport, this is the ground floor of Parkade 1. Official signs in the terminal direct travelers to this area.
  • If unsure or uncomfortable, return to a staffed airport area and seek assistance from official airport personnel.
