Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires, Argentina (February 19, 2026)

Event:  Concurrent with a nationwide strike against a labor reform bill, thousands of people are expected to demonstrate outside Congress today, February 19, 2026, at 2:30 pm.  Argentine Federal Police and Buenos Aires City Police will deploy officers and barricades to manage the event.  Traffic and/or sidewalks in the area will be disrupted.   While police do not expect the demonstration to be violent, conditions and the situation could change quickly.

Actions to Take:   

• Avoid downtown Buenos Aires, particularly Congress and the surrounding area throughout the
• Expect road closures and heavy
• Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
• Carry a photocopy of your U.S. passport or other valid identification.
• Be aware of your surroundings.
• Monitor local media for updates.
• Keep a low profile.
