Demonstration Alert: Port-au-Prince (Haiti), Protest March on January 31

Political opposition groups intend to demonstrate throughout Place Boyer in Petionville, and march to Place Dessalines in Champs de Mars starting at around 2pm, 31 January, 2021.  Please remain vigilant as large gatherings of this sort, while largely peaceful, can become unpredictable.  The U.S. Embassy will restrict non-official travel of its direct-hire U.S. citizen staff to the immediate Embassy neighborhood, and urges U.S. citizens to exercise caution while traveling in Port-au-Prince 

 

 

 

Actions to take:

 

·        Avoid the area;

 

·        Avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people;

 

·        Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; and

 

·        If you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area.
