Demonstration Alert: Budapest (Hungary), Several Protests Expected July 29-31

Location: Downtown Budapest 

 

Events: The U.S. Embassy would like to inform you of the following demonstrations taking place this weekend, July 29-31.

 

Friday, July 29, 2022, 1800-2200

Up to 500 people may participate in a demonstration seeking "the restoration of constitutional order" and will move along the following route: Városliget – Hősök tere – Andrássy út – Oktogon – Teréz körút – Nyugati tér – Szent István körút – Margit Bridge. The demonstration will include a shutdown and occupation of Margit Bridge. 

 

Saturday, July 30, 2022, 1800-2200

Up to 500 people may participate in a demonstration on Margit Bridge. The group seeks "the restoration of constitutional order" and the demonstration will include a shutdown and occupation of the bridge. 

 

Sunday, July 31, 2022, 1800-2200

Up to 500 people may participate in a demonstration on Margit Bridge. The group seeks "the restoration of constitutional order" and the demonstration will include a shutdown and occupation of the bridge. 

 

 

Actions to Take: 

  • If you find yourself in or near a demonstration, be aware of your surroundings and continually assess the demonstration for changes. 
  • Please be aware that even peaceful protests can turn violent. Depart any demonstration and seek shelter at the first sign of violence.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Comply with directions from local authorities. 
  • U.S. Embassy personnel have been advised to avoid these demonstrations.
