Event: Peak fire season in Chile runs from December through March. Wildfires are extremely dangerous, fast moving, and destructive. Wildfire conditions can emerge and change suddenly, and areas not immediately impacted by flames may nonetheless become hazardous due to smoke. Transportation in impacted areas can be limited and difficult. U.S. citizens in Chile are advised to monitor local news and the website of Chile’s National Emergency Agency,
SENAPRED, for the latest information regarding active wildfires.
Actions to Take:
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Avoid all areas impacted by active wildfires.
- Follow the guidance and orders of local officials.
- Call 132 to report a fire or 131 for medical assistance.
- Review your personal security plans.
- Make evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance.
- Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
