On March 21, the Government of North Macedonia announced that it will implement
a nationwide curfew to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The curfew will begin at 9 p.m. on Sunday
March 22, 2020 and will be in effect daily from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. The government has not announced an
anticipated date for lifting the curfew.
Visit the websites of the Government of North Macedonia or Ministry
of Health for additional
information on this new measure.
Everyone in North Macedonia, including U.S.
citizens, is restricted from movement outside their homes or places of
temporary residency during the hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., with limited
exceptions. People in need of emergency
medical assistance are exempted from the curfew. The Government of North Macedonia will also
exempt law enforcement, military, firefighters, and other essential employees
from the curfew. Access to
transportation, including taxis, may be limited during the curfew.
The U.S. Embassy in Skopje continues to be open
for American Citizen Services and emergency visa services only.
The State
Department issued a Level 4 Global Health Advisory on March 19, 2020, recommending U.S. citizens
avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19 or prepare
to remain abroad for an indefinite period. The CDC has issued a Level 2 Global Travel Alert for coronavirus.
