Demonstration Alert:  U.S. Consulate General Johannesburg, South Africa (January 15, 2026)

Location:  Johannesburg, South Africa

Event:  There is a planned demonstration at the U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg on Friday, January 16, from 12:00 – 14:00.  Due to the expected demonstration, there will be additional police presence around the Consulate and traffic delays in the vicinity are likely.  Even events intended to be peaceful can become violent.

Actions to Take:

  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Avoid all demonstrations and protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities.
  • Plan alternative routes.
