Demonstration Alert: Demonstration in Downtown Guayaquil – February 10, 2026

Location: Guayaquil, Ecuador

Event:

According to local reports, a peaceful protest of approximately 450 people is taking place at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, located at the intersection of Junín and Pedro Carbo, near Parque La Merced, in downtown Guayaquil. The demonstration is occurring today, February 10.

While the protest is currently peaceful, demonstrations are dynamic and may change with little or no advance notice. Disruptions to traffic, public transportation, and access to services in the surrounding area are possible.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the area surrounding the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office (Junín and Pedro Carbo) today.
  • Plan for possible traffic disruptions and delays in downtown Guayaquil.
  • Avoid large gatherings and demonstrations, which can escalate quickly.
  • Monitor local media and official Government of Ecuador sources for updates.
  • Follow guidance from local authorities and emergency services.
  • Review the Travel Advisory and safety and security information for Ecuador at Travel.State.Gov .
  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)  to receive security updates.
