Demonstration Alert: May 1, 2026 Demonstrations

Location: Countrywide

 

Event:  The U.S. Embassy is monitoring nationwide marches and demonstrations on May 1, 2026, throughout Colombia, including, but not limited to:

  • Barranquilla
    • 1000:  Plaza de la Paz
  • Bogota
    • 0800: March from the Palestinian Representative Office to Plaza de Bolivar;
    • 0930: March from the National Park to Plaza de Bolivar;
    • 1000: Public Universities (Pedagogica, Nacional, and Distrital) will march to Bolivar square
      (Expect significant traffic disruptions along the demonstration routes.)
  • Bucaramanga  
    • 0930: Luis Carlos Galan Square
  • Cali
    • 0800: Gloreita de la Estacion and the Puerto Rellena site
  • Cartagena
    • 1000: Colegio Departamental and Avenida Pedro de Heredia
  • Medellin
    • 1000: Parque de las Luces and Av. San Juan

Demonstrations are possible in other cities across Colombia but the details are not known at this time.

Even peaceful demonstrations have the potential to turn violent without any warning.  The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid areas around demonstrations, which often cause significant traffic delays, and to exercise caution when in the vicinity of large gatherings.
