Message for U.S. Citizens
Demonstration Alert – Demonstrations in Brazil January 5, 2026

Locations: Demonstrations are planned in multiple locations throughout Brazil, including:

  • In front of the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia
  • In front of the U.S. Consulate General in Porto Alegre
  • Near the U.S. Consulate General in Recife
  • Near the U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro
  • In front of the U.S. Consulate General in Sao Paulo

Event: Demonstrations protesting recent U.S. actions in Venezuela are expected to take place on January 5, 2026, beginning at 3:00 PM in Recife, 4:00 PM in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, and 5:00 PM in Brasilia and Porto Alegre.

Additional protests of a similar nature are expected to occur in the coming days at various locations across Brazil.

U.S. citizens should avoid the area of any demonstration and exercise caution in the vicinity.

Brazilian public safety officials are aware of the protests and are monitoring the situation.

Historically, gatherings of this type have been peaceful and orderly; however, demonstrations can quickly become unpredictable.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the area of the demonstration.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • Plan significant extra time to arrive at your destination
