Demonstration Alert: Paris (France), Disruptive & Potentially Violent Protests Against the Health Pass Expected on August 13 and 14

Location:  Throughout France, including multiple locations in the same cities. 

Event:  Disruptive and potentially violent demonstrations against the health pass expected to take place on Friday, August 13 and Saturday, August 14, with radicalized individuals from the far-right, far-left, and “ultra-jaunes” anticipated.  French authorities expect 250,000 demonstrators and 200 protests nationwide.  At this time the Embassy is aware of the following times and locations, but many additional demonstrations in other cities in France are expected.  Embassy employees have been told to avoid these locations.

Friday August 13

  • Paris: 7:00 p.m. at Place de la Republique

Saturday, August 14

  • Paris:
    • Noon to 7:00 p.m. from Porte Doree metro station towards Place de Clichy via Place de la Nation and Place de la République)
    • 1 :30 p.m. from Place de la Bourse towards Palais Royal
    • 2 :30 P.M. to 7 :00 P.M. from Place de la Catalogne – Montparnasse towards avenue de L’Observatoire
  • Strasbourg:
    • 2:00 p.m. at Place Kleber
  • Lyon:
    • 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Gare des Brotteaux (6th district) towards Place Jean Mace
    • 2:00 p.m. at La confluence – Esplanade Francois Mitterrand
  • Marseille:
    • 2:00 p.m. at Vieux port
  • Bordeaux:
    • 1:00 p.m. Gathering of motorcycles to ride to the Place de la Bourse
    • 1:30 p.m. Place de la Bourse
  • Rennes:
    • 2:00 p.m. Place de la Republique

Actions to Take:

·     Avoid the areas of the demonstrations 

·     Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests

·     Monitor local media for updates and public transport disruptions

·     Be aware of your surroundings

·     Keep a low profile

·     Notify friends and family of your safety
