Temporary Closure to the Public Alert – U.S. Embassy Nassau, The Bahamas (September 28, 2025)

 

Location: Nassau

Event: Due to the ongoing effects of Tropical Storm Imelda, the U.S. Embassy in Nassau will be on limited operations on Monday, September 29, 2025. All routine consular services appointments are cancelled. Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, September 30. U.S. citizens in need of emergency assistance only can call the embassy at 242-461-5025. The Bahamas government has announced that all schools and government offices (except essential workers) will be closed on Monday, September 29 in Nassau.

Actions to Take:

· Those with visa appointments scheduled for September 29 will receive an email explaining how to reschedule their appointment.

· To reach a customer service agent with questions about how to schedule or apply for a visa: call 242-603-1290 if in the Bahamas, or 703-831-3448 if in the United States, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, or visit our website: Visas - U.S. Embassy in The Bahamas - Use our new U.S. Visa Wizard!.

· U.S. citizens can schedule regular appointments for passport applications through our website: U.S. Citizens Services.

· Monitor the local news for updates regarding Tropical Storm Imelda, including the National Hurricane Center (https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/), Bahamas Department of Meteorology website (https://met.gov.bs/ ), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) websites (https://www.noaa.gov/ ).

· Follow The Bahamas DRM Facebook page for updates, including school and Bahamas government office closures and shelter locations: https://www.facebook.com/drm.gov.bs/.
