Bermuda Weather Service advises that a Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Hurricane Lee. Easterly winds will veer and strengthen to become tropical storm force with hurricane force gusts on Thursday and into early Friday when Lee will be approximately 160nm to the west of the island. Rough seas, swells and dangerous surf will continue to increase as conditions rapidly deteriorate. Conditions gradually improve later on Friday. Follow instructions from authorities.
Bermuda’s Emergency Measures Organization informs the following:
- In-person services at Bermuda Government Offices will be open Thursday and closed Friday morning, resuming operation at noon on Friday.
- The Causeway will remain open and closely monitored by Bermuda’s Ministry of Public Works.
- Public and private schools on the island will be closed Thursday and Friday out of an abundance of caution.
- Ferry services will be suspended Thursday.
- Busses will run according to their normal schedules Thursday until 5.30 p.m., when bus operations will be suspended.
- Flights to and from LF Wade International Airport will be suspended from 12 p.m. Thursday – with the exception of Thursday evening’s British Airways flights to and from the island, which are expected to proceed as scheduled. Passengers on other flights should check with their respective airlines.
- Bermuda’s Parks Department has posted high surf warning signs along public beaches and parks.
