Location:  Jordan

Event:  The U.S. Embassy has indications there may be continued missiles, drones, or rockets in Jordanian airspace in the coming days. Please maintain maximum awareness of your surroundings and, in the event of such an incident, seek overhead cover and shelter in place. Remain indoors and avoid exposure to falling debris. The Government of Jordan has now activated civil defense alarms in the event of missiles, drones, or rockets entering Jordanian airspace. Should the alarm sound and prompt people to seek shelter, U.S. embassy personnel will likewise be ordered to shelter in place until the “all clear” siren sounds. The two alarms are:
  • The first tone, consisting of three intermittent 30-second blasts, signals the presence or imminent arrival of danger, prompting citizens to take safety precautions including seeking shelter and calling 911 if there are any injuries or damage.
  • The second tone is a continuous higher pitched one-minute sound indicating the end of danger (“all clear”). The Public Security Directorate (PSD) states that sirens are usually followed by a voice message (in Arabic) explaining the reason behind their activation.

The U.S. Embassy remains open at this time. Should we be required to close, we will send out a notification with updated hours.

Due to high tensions in the region, the security environment remains complex and can change quickly. We remind U.S. citizens of the continued need for caution and encourage them to monitor the news for breaking developments.

Actions to Take: 

  • Monitor local media, such as Roya News, Petra News and Jordan Times for information.
  • Contact your airline directly for flight change details if your flight is affected.
  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)  to receive information and alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency overseas.
  • Prepare a plan for emergency situations. Review the Traveler’s Checklist  .
  • Follow the Department of State on Facebook   andTwitter/X  .
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Remain vigilant for anything appearing out of the ordinary.
  • Contact the Jordanian police by dialing 911 if you are in immediate danger.
