SECURITY ALERT – U.S. Embassy Beirut, March 02, 2026

SECURITY ALERT – U.S. Embassy Beirut, March 02, 2026
8 MINUTE READ
March 2, 2026

If you are in the country, the Department of State urges U.S. citizens to depart Lebanon now while commercial flight options remain available.  The security situation in Lebanon is volatile and unpredictable.  Airstrikes have occurred throughout the country, especially in the south, the Beqaa, and parts of Beirut.

We urge U.S. citizens not to travel to Lebanon.  We recommend that U.S. citizens who choose not to leave prepare contingency plans for emergency situations and be prepared to shelter in place should the situation deteriorate further.

These alternative plans should not rely on the U.S. government for assisted departure or evacuation.  The U.S. Embassy strongly encourages U.S. citizens in Southern Lebanon, near the borders with Syria, in refugee settlements, and in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut to depart those areas immediately.  Beirut-Rafic Hariri airport remains open and there is availability on commercial carriers, however flights may be cancelled at any time.  Please check flight options at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport .

All consular services are suspended until further notice.  The U.S. embassy currently has no ability to provide any assistance to U.S. citizens in Lebanon.

Actions to Take:
  • Leave Lebanon NOW.
  • U.S. citizens should NOTcome to the U.S. embassy until further notice.
  • If you are in Lebanon, be prepared to shelter in place should the situation deteriorate.
  • Have a contingency plan should the situation deteriorate. These alternative plans should not rely on assistance by the U.S. embassy for evacuation.
  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)  to receive alerts and make it easier for us to locate you in an emergency
  • As advised in the Lebanon Travel Advisory, U.S. citizens should avoid all travel to Lebanon.
