Health Alert: Equatorial Guinea, COVID-19 Update and Evacuation Instructions

Health Alert:  U.S. Embassy Malabo, Equatorial Guinea (March 25, 2020)

The Equatoguinean Ministry of Health and Social Welfare confirmed there are still only 9 cases of COVID-19 in Malabo and Bata. You can view information related to local and world Covid-19 cases on its website. 

 

On March 23, 2020, the Government of Equatorial Guinea announced an order strengthening the precautionary measures and restrictions to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  These restrictions will be enforced by the forces of public order.

 

Specific highlights of this order are as follows:

 

·        Nationals and expatriate citizens should avoid unnecessary travel outside of your residence.

·        Travel to work, health centers, pharmacies, supermarkets should be made individually.  Practice social distancing and avoid large gatherings of over 10 persons in a single space.

·        Be prepared for further restrictions and road closures for reasons of public health or security.

·        Anyone having entered Equatorial Guinea after day one of the current measures are obligated to go to the health authorities in order to take the necessary steps of safeguarding the health of others.

·        All bars, leisure and game rooms, pubs, casinos, pools, etc not providing prepared food are ordered closed. Public restaurants and dining rooms are excluded but should not accommodate more than ten persons at any given time.

·        Vehicles providing public transport are prohibited to carry more than (1) passenger.  Companies providing transport for employees should not exceed (2) passengers.

·        Citizens with any symptoms related to COVID-19 must notify the health authorities via the following telephone numbers:  222 27 38 15 and 222051 70 30.

U.S. citizens who are considering returning to the United States will need to send an email to malaboconsular@state.gov with the following information:

 

1.Full name, Date of Birth, and U.S. Passport number of all family members wishing to leave;

2.Detailed reason(s) as to why you need to leave;

3.Alternate phone numbers and emails to ensure we can reach you;

4.Any additional information you feel would help us resolve your situation in a timely manner.

5.List any health issues you may have
