Security Alert: Niamey (Niger), Attack on Escadrille Airbase Repelled

Location:  Niamey, Niger

Event: The U.S. Embassy in Niamey is aware of reports that the Nigerien military successfully repelled an attack on Escadrille airbase adjacent to Diori Hamani International Airport in the early morning hours of January 29. There are reports that airport access has been suspended and Niamey’s airspace is closed. The Embassy has suspended consular operations for 24 hours and has minimized movements of Embassy personnel.

Avoid the area surrounding Diori Hamani International Airport.
Monitor the local media for updates.
Stay alert at all times.

Ensure you have a valid passport.
