Demonstration Alert: Manila, Philippines - May 1 Protests in Metro Manila

Location: Metro Manila

Event: Several demonstrations are expected in Metro Manila on Friday, May 1, 2026. Local authorities expect around 8,000 protesters from various organizations at several locations, including the U.S. embassy. The embassy is scheduled to be closed May 1 for Philippine Labor Day.

Locations include:

  • Manila– España Boulevard, Mendiola, Liwasang Bonifacio, and the U.S. embassy
  • Quezon City– the Welcome Rotonda, University of Santo Tomas, St. Joseph’s College, and the University of the Philippines
  • Other locations in the National Capital Region

Actions to Take: 

  • U.S. citizens should avoid political demonstrations. Foreign nationals found engaging in a protest could be considered in violation of their immigration status.
  • Exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, as even peaceful demonstrations have the potential to turn violent without warning. Follow instructions from local authorities.
  • Follow local media and government sources for updates on possible public demonstrations, including information on disruptions to traffic or public services.
