Health Alert: Serbia, Chartered Flight Departing Belgrade on March 26

Location: Serbia

Event:  The U.S. Embassy in Serbia has coordinated a charter flight, departing March 26 at 12:00 noon, from Nikola Tesla airport (BEG) in Belgrade. This flight will go directly from BEG to Los Angeles (LAX). We do not know when civilian flights and normal travel will resume in Serbia but urge travelers to continue to check the availability of commercial flight options.

Air Serbia is offering this flight at no charge.  You will be responsible for any arrangements or costs (lodging, onward destination or local transportation, etc.) beyond your initial destination in the United States. Exact departure time and routing are subject to change.

If you have not done so already, and you want to depart on this U.S government charter flight from Belgrade, please email BelgradeACS@state.gov IMMEDIATELY with the following information:

·         Full name

·         Passport number and expiration date

·         Citizenship

·         Date of birth

·         Gender

·         Email address

·         Phone number

·         City where you are traveling from in Serbia

·         Any notable health concerns

Do NOT send additional requests if you have done so previously and received a response from the Embassy that you have been added to the flight list. Interested U.S. citizens NOT in possession of a valid U.S. passport who wish to book this flight should immediately email BelgradeACS@state.gov to request information on how to obtain an emergency U.S. passport.

Flight seats will be prioritized for U.S. citizens and their eligible family members (including those with identified health concerns), Legal Permanent Residents of the United States, and then others, as seats may become available. Please do not call the Embassy to confirm receipt of your email — we will contact you if you are confirmed for a seat.

The U.S. Embassy urges any interested travelers *NOT* to arrive at Nikola Tesla airport in Belgrade until they have received an official communication from the U.S. Embassy with confirmed flight details and booking. You will not be permitted to enter the airport without confirmation from the U.S. Embassy, stating that you have a confirmed seat on the flight.

The U.S. Embassy is unable to assist travelers with transportation to the airport. Serbia has suspended use of public transportation, and U.S. citizens will need to secure private transportation to the airport, such a private car or taxi. Please plan accordingly.

Travelers seeking transport on U.S. Embassy charter flights will not be permitted to travel if they are exhibiting flu-like symptoms and should not come to the airport. These individuals should self-quarantine and seek medical attention if their symptoms worsen. We understand this may represent a significant hardship, but it is necessary for the health and safety of all travelers on the flight.

Upon arrival to the United States, passengers may be subject to CDC screening, increased health observation and/or monitoring requirements. For additional questions, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 Information for Travel page.

On March 19, the Department of State issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory advising U.S. citizens to reconsider travel abroad due to the global impact of COVID-19.
