Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires, Argentina (February 27, 2026)

Event:  A large-scale demonstration is expected outside Congress on February 27, 2026, starting at 11:00 am.  Argentine Federal Police and Buenos Aires City Police will deploy officers and barricades to manage the event.  Traffic and/or sidewalks in the area will be disrupted.   Police expect heightened tensions and possible violence after recent related demonstrations.

Actions to Take:   

• Avoid downtown Buenos Aires, particularly Congress and the surrounding area throughout the day.
• Expect road closures and heavy traffic.
• Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
• Carry a photocopy of your U.S. passport or other valid identification.
• Be aware of your surroundings.
• Monitor local media for updates.
• Keep a low profile.
