The U.S. Embassy in Algiers advises U.S. citizens that meteorological authorities have forecast extreme wind conditions across parts of Algeria today and tomorrow, January 28-29, 2026. High winds may cause hazardous travel conditions, power outages, and property damage. Blowing dust and sand may reduce visibility, especially in open and desert areas.
Please note: Due to the forecasted extreme wind, the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy will be closed on January 28, 2026. All consular appointments scheduled for this date will be rescheduled.
Actions to Take:
- Monitor local news and weather reports for updates.
- Secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during high winds.
- Exercise caution if driving; be alert for debris and reduced visibility.
- Follow instructions from local authorities.
- Keep your travel documents and emergency supplies accessible.
