Location: Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraiba, and Rio Grande do Norte

Event: Brazil’s National Institute of Meteorology warns of heavy rainfall and strong winds in Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraiba, and Rio Grande do Norte through tomorrow. The Pernambuco Water and Climate Agency issued a flooding alert, and Pernambuco Civil Defense issued a landslide alert for Recife, advising residents in risk areas to leave immediately and seek shelter.

Actions to Take:

  • Monitor the local news for updates.
  • Visit the Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology website  for updated weather information.
  • Visit the Pernambuco Water and Climate Agency (APAC) Instagram page   for updated rainfall information.
  • Move to higher ground to avoid rising waters.
  • Do not walk, swim, or drive through flood waters.
  • Contact police or other authorities if you encounter dangerous conditions and follow warnings and directions provided. If you have an emergency, call 190 for the police or 193 for the fire department
  • Notify friends and family of your safety.
