Health Alert: Maharashtra (India), Curfews and Random Testing Implemented

Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Event:The number of new coronavirus cases in India continues to rise daily with more than 115,000 new infections reported nationwide on April 7, including 59,907 in the state of Maharashtra. The city of Mumbai is currently seeing more new COVID-19 cases (10,428) than at any other time in the past year. To curb the second wave of the spread of COVID-19 and its variants, the State Government of Maharashtra has implemented random testing and stricter quarantine measures, including nighttime curfews. Travelers should check the CDC website and Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for additional information on these new measures.

Effective immediately, the U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai, India will provide only essential services to U.S. citizens and limited, emergency visa services until further notice to curb the second wave of the spread of COVID-19 and its variants. Accordingly, some scheduled visa (immigrant and non-immigrant) appointments will be cancelled, and applicants will be notified of the appointment cancellations directly by email.
