Security Alert: Reynosa (Tamaulipas), Criminal Roadblocks and Unrest in Reynosa

Location:  Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Event:  U.S. Consulate Matamoros has received reports of violent criminal activity including roadblocks in Reynosa.  U.S. government employees have been ordered to avoid the greater Reynosa area.  The State Department’s Travel Advisory for Tamaulipas  is Level 4 – Do Not Travel Due to Terrorism, Crime, and Kidnapping.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the greater Reynosa area
  • Maintain a high level of vigilance and keep a low profile
  • Monitor local media for updates
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Notify friends and family of your safety
  • Review your personal security plans and follow the instructions of local authorities
  • Call 911 if you need emergency assistance
