Natural Disaster Alert: U.S. Mission to Afghanistan (from Doha, Qatar)
Location: Khulm, Balkh province and Mazar-i-Sharif, Samangan province
A 6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in the northern provinces of Balkh and Samangan, near the town of Khulm and 60 kilometers east of Mazar-i-Sharif, at 12:59 a.m. local time on Monday, November 3, 2025.
All inquiries regarding U.S. citizens affected by the earthquake should be directed to AfghanistanACS@state.gov.
U.S. citizens are reminded that the Travel Advisory for Afghanistan remains at level 4 (“Do Not Travel”) due to the risk of civil unrest, crime, terrorism, wrongful detention, kidnapping, and limited health facilities. U.S. citizens are also reminded that the U.S. Embassy in Kabul suspended operations in 2021 and that the U.S. government’s ability to provide routine or emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in Afghanistan is very limited.
