Security Alert: Johannesburg (South Africa), Planned Demonstration Outside Consulate from 12:00-14:00 on January 24

Location:  Johannesburg, South Africa

Event:  There is a planned demonstration at the U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg on Saturday, January 24, from 12:00 – 14:00.  Protestors may be in the area in the hour leading up to the planned start.  Due to the demonstration, there may be additional police presence around the Consulate and traffic delays in the vicinity are likely.  Even events intended to be peaceful can become violent.

• Avoid all demonstrations and protests.
• Monitor local media for updates.
• Follow the instructions of local authorities.
• Plan alternative routes.
