Keep Your Passport Secure on the Plane and in Transit

Location: Türkiye

Event: The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Türkiye strongly urge you to keep your passport secure during your flight and while transiting through the airport.  Always keep your passport on your person and under your control.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • If you lose your passport prior to clearing customs and immigration, Turkish immigration officials will not permit you to enter Türkiye.
  • The U.S. Embassy or Consulate cannot assist you with clearing Turkish customs and immigration.
  • The U.S. Embassy or Consulate cannot provide you with passport services if you have not cleared Turkish customs and immigration.
  • If you lose your U.S. passport and cannot enter Türkiye using another valid passport, your only option is to contact airline staff at the airport and arrange return travel to the United States or your point of departure.
  • Please immediately report the loss of your passport .

If you are able to enter Türkiye using a passport other than your U.S. passport and wish to apply for a limited validity emergency U.S. passport once in Türkiye, please contact American Citizen Services by using this contact form.  In your request, describe the urgent circumstances and attach supporting documentation, such as proof of upcoming travel.
