Message for U.S. Citizens – Subnational Election Day Restrictions on March 22, 2026

Location: Nationwide throughout Bolivia.

Event: Subnational Election Day Restrictions on Sunday, March 22, 2026

The Bolivian government will implement election-related restrictions on Sunday, March 22, 2026. U.S. citizens are subject to these restrictions, which include:

  • No sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages from 12:00 am Friday, March 20 until 12:00 pm on Monday, March 23. 
  • No teleferico service or unauthorized vehicle circulation throughout Sunday, March 22, beginning just after midnight the evening of March 21 and ending at midnight on March 22 (election day). 
  • No public gatherings on election day. 

There will be no domestic flights operating within Bolivia on election day; international flights are exempted and may operate as normal. U.S. citizens arriving to Bolivia on election day should check with their airline or arriving airport for ground transportation options.

Actions to take: 

  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)  to receive security updates. 
  • Obey Bolivian election day restrictions. 
  • Check with airlines or airport officials for ground transportation options if arriving on an international flight to Bolivia on election day. 
  • Monitor local media for updates.
