Weather Alert: Guadalajara (Mexico), Tropical Storm Dolores Forecasted to Strengthen Near Hurricane Strength

Location:  Mexican States of Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Oaxaca

Event:  Tropical Storm Dolores is forecast to strengthen to near hurricane strength as it approaches the coast of Colima and is expected to make landfall the afternoon of June 19 near Manzanillo.  Heavy rains, strong winds, and turbulent surf are expected, which could cause life-threatening flash floods and landslides.  Swells generated by Dolores are likely to cause life-threatening surf and riptides.  In addition, a dangerous storm surge is expected to cause coastal flooding and will be accompanied by large and destructive waves.

Actions to Take:

  • Monitor the local news for updates, follow directions from local officials, and in case of emergency call 911.
  • Monitor the  U.S. National Hurricane Center and the  Mexican National Meteorological Service (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional) for updates on storm activity and emergency response.
  • Keep your friends and loved ones up-to-date about your whereabouts – via phone, text, and social media – and let them know you are safe when possible.
