Health Alert: China, COVID-19 Restrictions Expanding

Over the past several days, due to one or more positive COVID-19 cases in multiple locations in different provinces, local health authorities are expanding COVID-19 measures for individuals traveling from these areas to other cities and provinces, including quarantines or requirements for COVID-19 tests to board trains or depart one district for another.  Many facilities such as malls, office buildings, and popular tourist sites that had relaxed requirements previously may now require persons to present a green health code on one of the several mobile applications established for this purpose.

If the local, provincial or national government designates an area as medium- or high-risk for COVID, the area may be subject to intensive prevention and control measures, which could include mass testing, closures, transportation disruptions, lockdowns, family separation, or other measures.  Some cities have announced suspension of train service to or from other designated cities. Persons who have recently traveled to areas considered high-risk may be required to quarantine upon arriving in another city or province, with little to no advance notice of the change in policy.  In response to local outbreaks, Chinese authorities have implemented quarantine and testing policies in certain communities and residences.  If you have a scheduled appointment please contact the Embassy or Consulate General to reschedule.  The Embassy and the Consulates General will attempt to extend maximum flexibility for people who are impacted by COVID-19 related restrictions.
