Event: There are ongoing calls for nationwide anti-government demonstrations on December 9th, but protest activity could begin as early as this weekend.
U.S. citizens should be prepared for potential disruptions, including the possibility of unrest, nation-wide curfews, an internet blackout, cancellation of ferries to Zanzibar, cancellation of international flights, and roadblocks set up to enforce movement restrictions.
The Embassy is open for limited emergency American citizen services only on December 8th and 10th. As of December 8th, U.S. government employees are restricted from traveling domestically in Tanzania.
