Demonstration Alert:  Demonstrations on January 31 – U.S. Embassy Bern, Switzerland – January 30, 2026 

Location:  Bern and other cities, Switzerland

Event:  Several demonstrations are expected throughout Switzerland on Saturday, January 31.  One such demonstration is expected near Bern’s Lorrainebrücke starting at 14:00.  A large police presence is planned in response.  Police often block additional streets in the vicinity of the Bundesplatz and may suspend bus and tram traffic in the Bahnhofplatz and downtown areas.  Closures typically begin one hour before the protest start time.  Significant traffic delays are expected.


Actions to Take:

  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • If you find yourself in the vicinity of a large gathering or protest, exercise caution and leave the area immediately.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Notify friends and family of your safety.
