Demonstration Alert: Possible Protest in Bogota – January 9, 2026

Location: Bogota

Event: A possible protest is planned in Bogota on January 9, 2026.  The protest could place in the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy starting approximately 11:00 a.m.  Protests could also affect other areas of the city.  The Embassy will maintain regular hours, and previously scheduled appointments will be completed.

The event is likely to cause traffic disruptions in and around protest locations.  U.S. citizens should avoid protests as they have the potential to turn violent.

U.S. Embassy Bogota will monitor protest activity and provide updates as necessary.

Actions to Take: 
  • Avoid crowds and protests.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Wear little to no jewelry and carry few valuables. Keep a low profile.
  • Avoid using your cell phone in public.
  • Do not physically resist any robbery attempt.
  • Keep car doors locked, and windows rolled up.
  • Leave early and allow extra time for travel.
  • Monitor local news media for updates.
